Skincare: come funziona un prodotto sulla nostra pelle?

Skincare: how does a product work on our skin?

The skincare routine has become the biggest phenomenon of recent years, since we have finally realized that to maintain the beauty of our skin we must take care of it.

But how does a product work on our skin?

First of all we need to know that the skin is our largest organ, so your skincare routine should extend to the whole body, not just the face!

The skin is made up of different layers, the outermost one is the epidermis , which protects us from smog, wind, UV rays and allows us to stay hydrated.

The second layer is the dermis , which performs a thermoregulation function, that is, it keeps our body temperature constant.

The last layer is the hypodermis , which protects the bones and joints.

But then, during skincare, how does the skin absorb the active ingredients of our creams?

First of all I'll explain something to you, when we talk about cosmetics we mean products that act (only) on the epidermis, therefore on the outer layer of the skin.

The epidermis is covered by a skin barrier that protects the skin and makes it waterproof, thanks to its hydrolipidic composition. This means that oil-based cosmetics will be able to act more effectively than water-based ones.

“So I have to only use oil-based products in my skincare routine?”

No, each product has its function and each composition is useful. Furthermore, it is not the only factor to consider, the molecular size is also very important.

“Larger” ingredients tend to “rest” on the skin, such as ceramides, while smaller molecules can penetrate it more easily such as vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin C and peptides.

PS. Products with larger ingredients perform a protective function, forming a shield on the skin, while those with smaller ingredients work in the epidermis.

So what should I do to make my skincare more effective?

First of all, start with double cleansing of the face, the first oil-based step will be able to dissolve make-up, impurities and skincare residues, the second step will delicately remove excess oil.

Proceed with correct exfoliation, it will allow you to eliminate dead cells and allow cosmetics to act more effectively, but be careful not to overdo it!

Follow all the instructions on the packages, apply the products in the right order, respect the application times and above all, never skip sunscreen. Conclude your skincare routine with an SPF cream, favoring those with physical filters.
Our sun creams are formulated with zinc oxide in non-nano form , this means that they are deposited on the skin creating a protective barrier and respecting marine life.

You can find them on our shop , choose the one that best suits you!
