How to make your beauty routine more sustainable

Spoiler: in this article I won't tell you to only buy vintage pieces and adopt a vegan diet but I will explain what to do to make your beauty routine more sustainable, because every big change starts with a small gesture (someone said more or less like this ).

Use reusable make-up remover pads

Disposable pads and make-up remover wipes, at the stake!

Cotton wool pads are comfortable and also effective but they accumulate in our bathroom bin and are highly polluting, especially for the sea and oceans. The same goes for make-up removing wipes, which also remove make-up badly!

The best option is to invest in a make-up removing glove or reusable fabric pads, just be careful to choose them very soft so as not to irritate the skin and remember to wash them after each use! 

If you don't like it, reinvent it!

How many times have you bought a product and not finished it? There can be many reasons, the scent is too intense, the texture is too heavy or simply because it wasn't suitable for you. All the skincare products you don't use can be reinvented for the body.
In face creams the concentration of active ingredients is higher, so they will be even more effective, your legs (and also the Earth) will thank you!

Sustainability starts with a smile: the bamboo toothbrush

“Do toothbrushes also pollute?”

Let's say yes, the toothbrush must be changed (therefore thrown away) at least every two months, can you imagine how much plastic accumulates? Billions of sticks every year.
Next time you buy one, make a sustainable choice and opt for the bamboo one, its handle is biodegradable!

Don't buy too many products

If you too are a skincare addict and all you do is buy products and test them, I have bad news for you. Every cosmetic product has a PAO ( period after opening ), which is a period of time in which the product is kept in good condition once opened. Once this period has passed, the product can cause rashes and irritation, so you will have to throw it away (yes, you really have to).
If you continue to accumulate products in your bathroom, you will have to throw away more and more. Definitely not sustainable. However tempting it may be, finish your moisturizer before purchasing another one, or get a single-dose sample.

Choose sunscreen with a physical filter

Sunscreen should be worn every day and there is no discussion about this. However, we can talk about the choice of SPF creams, did you know that the chemical filters contained in sun creams cause coral bleaching and the alteration of marine biodiversity?

Around 25% of underwater life depends on the habitat created by coral reefs and unfortunately, ingredients such as Oxybenzone, Octinoxate and Octocrylene change the DNA of corals, causing sterility and an inability to reproduce. These active ingredients, depositing on the corals, cause them to absorb more heat, therefore the natural tolerance threshold towards changes in water temperature is lowered, causing bleaching and increasing the risk of dying.
